Translate vision into executable strategy:

1. Start with VISION (5-year picture)
   What do you want to build?
   "In 5 years, we'll be the default AI infrastructure for enterprises"
   
   NOT: "In 5 years, we'll have $100M revenue" (too vague)
   YES: "In 5 years, every major tech company uses our platform"
   
   Vision is about impact/market position, not numbers.

2. Work backwards: Year 1 (rough milestones)
   If that's the 5-year vision, what needs to be true in Year 1?
   - 100+ customers using product
   - $1M ARR
   - Enterprise-grade reliability
   - Strong founder-led sales
   - Product-market fit confirmed
   
   These are Year 1 milestones.

3. Quarter-level goals (now get specific)
   Q1 2026:
   - Goal: Achieve PMF with [specific segment]
   - Metrics: 40%+ D30 retention, $50k MRR, 10 enterprise pilots
   - Key initiatives:
     1. Refine onboarding (reduce churn)
     2. Close 3 enterprise pilots (prove viability)
     3. Build advisor network (guide strategy)
   
   Q2 2026:
   - Build on Q1: Hit $100k MRR, close first 3 enterprise customers
   - Key initiatives:
     1. Build sales team (shift from founder-led)
     2. Product roadmap for enterprise needs
     3. Fundraising prep
   
   And so on...

4. The translation framework
   VISION → YEAR 1 GOAL → Q1 GOAL → MONTHLY GOAL → WEEKLY FOCUS
   
   Vision: Become AI infra default
   ↓
   Year 1: 100+ customers, $1M ARR, PMF
   ↓
   Q1: 40%+ retention, 10 pilots, $50k MRR
   ↓
   Month 1: Onboarding improvements, 3 pilot closes
   ↓
   Week 1: Finish onboarding redesign, call 5 prospects
   
   Everything traces back.
   Everything is connected.

5. Quarterly goal structure
   Each quarter should have:
   - One north star metric (what are we optimizing for)
   - 2-3 key initiatives (what work achieves it)
   - Clear success criteria (how do we know we won)
   - Key assumptions (what has to be true)
   - Dependencies (what's outside our control)
   
   Example:
   Q1 Goal: Achieve PMF in mid-market segment
   - North star: 40%+ D30 retention for mid-market customers
   - Initiatives: Onboarding overhaul, targeted sales to 10 prospects, customer success assignment
   - Success: 5+ mid-market customers, 40%+ retention, clear product feedback
   - Assumptions: Mid-market has budget, product works for their needs
   - Dependencies: Sales team ready, onboarding completed

6. The focus discipline
   With clear Q1 goal, you can say:
   - YES to initiatives aligned with Q1 goal
   - NO to everything else (save for later quarters)
   
   This prevents distraction.
   Focus = speed.

7. Tracking progress
   Monthly:
   - Are we on track for Q1 goal?
   - What's going well? What's not?
   - Do we need to adjust?
   
   Mid-quarter:
   - Are initiatives moving needle?
   - Should we redirect effort?
   
   End of quarter:
   - Did we hit goal?
   - What did we learn?
   - How does it inform Q2?

8. Honest assessment
   At end of quarter:
   - Hit goal: Why? What worked?
   - Missed goal: Why? What can we fix?
   - Changed strategy: Was change justified?
   - What was the opportunity cost?
   
   Use this to inform next quarter.
